Judge Stacia Buchanan received her B.A. in Psychology from Oakland University and her J.D. from Michigan State College of Law. During her time at MSU, she fell in love with the Lansing area and decided to stay and build a life in the community.
Judge Buchanan began practicing criminal defense and family law in 2003. Judge Buchanan learned that service to her community was best achieved when she represented the indigent persons. Judge Buchanan continued to serve the vulnerable members of our community until Governor Rick Snyder appointed her to the 54-A District Court bench at the end of August, 2017.
Judge Buchanan was an active member of the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan, the Criminal Justice Policy Commission, the Ingham County Indigent Defense Collaborative Committee, and also served as a past president of the Ingham County Bar Association. Judge Buchanan remains a member of the Michigan Supreme Court Criminal Jury Instruction Committee, contributing to the ongoing drafts of instructions that guide juries in deciding criminal cases.
Judge Buchanan enjoys delivering Meals on Wheels and is a director for the Lansing Education Advancement Foundation.
