The City of Lansing Public Service Department announces that on Monday, July 8, 2019, traffic will be shifted on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. between Victor Avenue and Moores River Drive and turn prohibition will be implemented to facilitate sewer separation and underground utility construction.

The following changes will be implemented:
  • Southbound through traffic will be reduced from three lane to two lanes
  • Northbound through traffic will be reduced from three lanes to one lane.
  • Two way traffic will implemented on the west side of the boulevard (phase 1), then to the east side of the boulevard (phase 2) (one northbound lane and two southbound lanes)
  • Left turns to and from Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard will be prohibited.
  • Right turns to and from northbound Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will be prohibited except at Moores River Drive.
  • Local traffic will be maintained on the side of the boulevard that work is being performed on, with access being from/to the adjacent residential streets.

Areas west of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd (south of Victor to the Grand River)
Use Pleasant Grove/Boston and/or Waverly Road to access Mt. Hope and residential streets

Areas east of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd (south of Victor to Moores River Drive)
Use Washington to access Mt. Hope Avenue and residential streets

Signalized intersections along Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., in the vicinity of the project, will be affected as follows:
  • Holmes Road - fully open during the project
  • Mt. Hope – No Left Turns
  • Barnes – Eastbound right turns and north/south through traffic only
Work on Martin Luther, King, Jr. is expected to last through early October.

Weekly updates will be provided through the project Facebook group and a press release will be issued prior to the start of Phase 2.
