City of Lansing Announces Downtown Bike Lockers(LANSING) - In an effort to encourage non-motorized transportation and bicycle safety, the City of Lansing’s Public Service Department today announced the launch of bike lockers located downtown Lansing. The City has partnered with CycleSafe—a company locally sourced out of Grand Rapids (Michigan) that has been specializing in bike parking products since 1980—and purchased and installed durable, weather-resistant bike lockers.
There are 24 bike lockers throughout downtown Lansing. Of those 24 lockers, 16 are open for the general public to use with the remainder being exclusively available to private entities. The lockers are powered by Bluetooth and managed by an app called Movatic. The app can be downloaded on smart phones. The lockers are located at the following locations:- Ionia Street and Washington Avenue
- Lansing City Hall
- Davenport University (Washtenaw Street and Grand Avenue)
- S. Capitol Parking Ramp (Kalamazoo Street and S. Capitol Avenue)
A detailed map that shows all of the locker locations can be accessed in the Movatic app.The lockers are available for use Monday-Sunday and are currently operating from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., however, this is subject to change. Currently, with the exception of the weekend days, the lockers are open for use at times when the City’s maintenance staff is available to assist users.
The lockers will be free on a trial-basis for the month of November. Rates will be applied starting on December 1, 2020, which will be displayed in the Movatic app once enforced.Instructions on how to use the lockers can be found on the front of each locker door and on the City's website.
Additional information, pictures of the lockers and answers to the most frequently asked questions can be found on the City’s website at lansingmi.gov/bikelockers.
