he National Weather Service has forecasted that the heavy rain currently hitting Lansing will convert to freezing rain or sleet between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2020. As temperatures continue to drop throughout the day, ice will begin to form and stick. It is expected that Lansing will receive between a quarter and half inch of ice by this evening. Due to the ice and high winds, Lansing residents are encouraged to be prepared for the potential of power outages, dangerous travel conditions and downed power lines and trees.
The Lansing Board of Water and Light (BWL) has declared a Mobilization Level 3, the highest level, which includes placing the appropriate number of crews on standby. BWL has also brought additional mutual aid line crews to Lansing, to be ready to respond to any potential power outages. Report an outage at: lbwl.com/outagecenter.
Edgewood Blvd. between Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Georgetown is currently closed due to water on the road. Crews are working on the pump station to get water off of the road as soon as possible.
