Mayor Andy Schor Declares Snow Emergency

(LANSING)— Mayor Andy Schor has declared a Snow Emergency for the City of Lansing beginning Monday, January 28, 2019, at 8:30 a.m. City Hall, 54-A District Court and other city facilities are closed. All city events and meetings are cancelled.

“We are getting a lot of snow in very little time. In order to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors, I have declared a Snow Emergency,” said Mayor Andy Schor. “People need to stay off of the streets so that we can clear them properly. City employees are working hard to keep roads safe. We will do our best to keep main roads clear as the snow continues to fall, and will get to our side streets as soon as possible.”

During a Snow Emergency, non-essential commercial, private and public travel on city roads, as well as on-street parking is prohibited to ensure safety and efficiency during snow clearing operations. The emergency vehicle access plan to support police, fire and EMS personnel, as well as the community-wide critical communications plan have both been implanted. All local resources are being utilized to their fullest extent.

The City of Lansing is responsible for clearing more than 440 miles of city streets. Plowing operations on local streets follow the city’s established plow routes. Residents can stay updated on the status of plowing operations by visiting www.lansingmi.gov/winterstreets.

Residents are reminded that city ordinance requires property owners to clear snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property within 24 hours after snow stops falling.

Lansing residents can sign up for Lansing Alert to receive text or email updates and notifications regarding the City’s snow removal operations at www.lansingmi.gov/lansingalert.
