Mayor Andy Schor Welcomes New Fire Chief to the Lansing Fire Department

Mayor Andy Schor today announced the appointment of Michael Mackey as the new Fire Chief of the Lansing Fire Department. Mackey will begin his role as chief in late April 2019.

“Chief Mackey brings years of experience and expertise to the Lansing Fire Department,” said Mayor Andy Schor. “It is an honor to have him join the department. I’m confident his leadership will be a great asset to Lansing and its residents.”

Mackey joins the Lansing Fire Department after over 30 years of fire service with the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, one of Florida’s largest fire departments. Throughout his time at Palm Beach, Mackey served in a number of roles and leadership positions including firefighter, district chief, fire rescue administrator and interim fire chief.

“I am excited and looking forward to the opportunity to serve the City of Lansing,” said Chief Mackey.

Mackey was selected as the top candidate through the City of Lansing’s interview process. The interview panel included Interim Fire Chief Purchase, Pastor Pj Anderson of Space for Grace WithOutWalls United Church of Christ, Chief of Staff Samantha Harkins, Human Resources Director Linda Sanchez-Gazella and Fire Board Chair Rodney Singleton.

“I am proud to have served on the interview panel for selecting Lansing’s next fire chief,” said Pastor Pj Anderson, who served as a citizen representative on the interview panel. “Chief Mackey is a great leader and will do a terrific job as Lansing Fire Chief.”

Current interim Fire Chief David Purchase will end his duties at the Lansing Fire Department by the end of January. Assistant Fire Chief Mike Tobin will serve as interim chief until the new chief beings in late April.
