The Public Service Department is responsible for snow removal and salting of over 400 miles of streets. Winter maintenance is a big job, and it cannot be completed without the cooperation of the City's team, residents, businesses and agencies. As a result, the City's technical staff, supervisors and equipment operators work together to continually improve the snow removal program.

Please Remember:

• Each snowfall or ice storm differs and the individual weather conditions determine when the Public Service Department starts and stops winter maintenance. 
• The City of Lansing receives their information from the National Weather Service in addition to a private weather forecasting service; both of these services also impact the City’s decision. 
• City trucks travel several miles every time they plow in poor weather conditions, so the City asks that residents understand that streets and sidewalks cannot be cleared instantly or perfectly, although staff certainly does make it their number one priority.
