As part of the city of Lansing’s PA 425 agreement with DeWitt Charter Township, for the property owned by the Capital Region International Airport the two municipalities jointly applied to create an economic development entity known as a Next Michigan Development Corporation (NMDC). This joint board consists of 2 voting members appointed by the City and Township respectively, and 1 non-voting seat held by the Capital Region Airport Authority. The NMDC Board is empowered by state legislation to issue certain tax incentives to spur the development efforts of airport related properties and the expansion of businesses utilizing multi-modal commerce as component of their business operations. The board is responsible for operating by-laws for the governance of the Next Michigan Development Corporation.
City of Lansing representatives to this board shall be appointed by the mayor and serve 2-year terms.
