New redevelopment projects are headed our way! The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded the Lansing Regional Brownfield Coalition, led by LEAP on behalf of the City of Lansing and our partners, a maximum grant award of $500,000 through the 2015 EPA Brownfield Program.
GM announced a $175 million investment for new tooling and equipment for the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro to be produced in Lansing. The Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant will resume a second shift of 500 jobs in late summer.
Organizers of the crowdfunding effort for the Beacon Soccer Field in downtown Lansing announced that they have reached their goal. With two days left in the campaign, contributions totaled $61,492. The Beacon Soccer Field will provide a free and accessible field for our community.
Mayor Virg Bernero and the Lansing Economic Area Partnership recently joined the Ambling University Development Group to announce the $77 million SkyVue on Michigan project.
Mayor Bernero recently presented the Key to the City to Lansing native Earvin "Magic" Johnson at the Lansing Promise Scholarship Dinner. Johnson (and friends) gave $800,000 of the $1 Million raised. The scholarship is a shining success, due largely to the dedication of the local Promise Board.
As part of a City/Lansing School District partnership against bullying, the Mayor established the "Upstander Awards" program to recognize students who meet established criteria like peacefully standing up to bullying. The awards will include small scholarships, which are being funded online.
Mayor Bernero joined Lansing Lugnuts owner Tom Dickson, and LEAP President & CEO Bob Trezise to cut the ribbon on the $13.5 million renovation project at Cooley Law School Stadium.
The new Mediteran Café and Catering is now open in the lower level of the Capitol National Building in downtown Lansing.
