Curbside Recycling Program

The recycling collection program is funded by an annual fee assessed to single family property owners in the City of Lansing. The fee for FY15 is $94.50. There are no additional fees for the bi-weekly recycling collection and unlimited weekly yard waste collection (seasonal). The convenient “single stream) curbside recycling means no sorting and many more materials accepted!

If you are in need of a recycling cart, please call 517-483-4400 or email recycle@lansingmi.gov.

Recyclables should be at the curbside no later than 7:00 AM on collection day. Please promptly remove carts from curb after collection day.

Clothing and Textile Recycling

The City of Lansing has partnered with Simple Recycling, a company that collects usable clothing, shoes, textiles and household goods for reuse and recycling. Lansing residents can set these materials out at the curbside on their normal city recycling day. Simple Recycling provides special bags and tags to residents that must be used to set out these items. To request bags, contact Simple Recycling at 866-835-5068 or info@simplerecycling.com

Please remember this is a separate collection from the Lansing green recycling carts. Please do not put clothing and textiles inside recycling carts.

Cell Phone Recycling

Lansing community centers no longer accept cell phones. Please check out other recycling options, including: Best Buy and Staples.

Together we can make a difference! For every 1000 tons of recyclables that the City collects:

  • 14,903 trees are saved
  • 6,404,606 gallons of water are saved
  • 408,412 gallons of gasoline are saved
  • 2,856 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions are saved
