Green Bin Program (curbside)

Green Recycling BinThe City of Lansing has been providing convenient weekly curbside recycling services to Lansing residents since 1991.   The following materials can be placed in green recycling bins. If you need a recycling bin, please call 483-4400 or email.

 

Glass BottlesClear and brown glass food jars and beverage bottles
Rinse clean and remove lids. (put lids with cans) NO drinking glasses, pyrex, window panes, dishes or light bulbs.

Metal PileMetal
Steel cans, aluminum cans, trays and clean foil. Rinse clean, remove top and bottom if possible. Please flatten. No gasoline, aerosol or paint cans, wire or scrap metal.

Plastic Jugs#2 HDPE plastic bottles and jugs
Only bottles and jugs with threaded neck (no tubs). Must have seam on bottom. Rinse clean, remove and discard cap. Please flatten. NO motor oil containers, plastic bags or Tropicana juice bottles.

#1 PETE/PET plastic bottles
Clear and green transparent PETE/PET containers only. Only bottles and jugs with threaded neck. Rinse clean, remove and discard cap. Please flatten. 

Newspapers (including inserts) 
Place in brown paper grocery bag. Place newspapers beside or inside green bins. NO cardboard or telephone books. PLEASE SEPARATE NEWSPAPERS FROM MIXED PAPER AND JUNK MAIL.

Mixed Paper for RecycleMixed paper/junk mail
Place in brown paper grocery bag. Mixed paper is almost anything that comes inside a mail box; including: junk mail, flyers, envelopes (windows okay), office paper, letterhead, magazines and catalogs, colored paper, stationery and shredded paper.
