Engineering back

The Engineering Division of the Public Service Department is divided into two sections; (1) Transportation & Non-Motorized and (2) Infrastructure & Environment. The Engineering Division manages between 35-70 million dollars in Capital Improvement projects annually.

Transportation & Non-motorized

  • Responsible for traffic operations in the city 
  • Installs and maintains traffic signs, signals and pavement markings 
  • Coordinates the city's sidewalk repair and maintenance program, neighborhood study, traffic calming programs, provides Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) support for Public Service Department
  • Provides design recommendation for roadway projects, sidewalks, pathways and bike lanes
  • Develops the specifications for construction and checks that the contractors are complying with those specifications

               

Infrastructure & Environment

  • Responsible for planning, designing, and construction management of streets, bridges, sidewalks, sewer systems and flood control structures 
  • Works on Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) elimination programs, environmental remediation and brownfield redevelopment construction projects 
  • Other special city construction projects
