Historic Districts
Lansing has three (3) historic districts established by Council resolution and regulated by local ordinance Chapter 1220. Permits for construction, alteration, and demolition of resources in the districts are reviewed by the Historic District Commission.
Lansing Historic Districts
Cherry Hill Historic District
The Cherry Hill Historic District was established in 1989. It comprises twenty-four properties, dating from the 1870's through early twentieth century. Currently, the structures are used for residential and office use.
Ottawa/Walnut Historic District
The Ottawa/Walnut Historic District was designated in 1992, has four properties under a single ownership. Two of the few remaining row houses in the city are located in this district.
Darius B. Moon House Historic District
The Darius B. Moon House Historic District is a single resource district, established in 2001. The former home of prominent architect, Darius B. Moon, was moved to its present location on Huron Street in 1979 when M L King Blvd was widened.
National Historic Districts
As well as the Historic Districts that are regulated by council and local ordinance, the City of Lansing also has many sites that are on the National Historic District List. These sites are NOT regulated by Lansing City Council.
