Summer Fun with Lansing Parks and Recreation..........
Lansing Parks and Recreation has many programs to offer during the summer months. Whether you are looking to cool off in one of our outdoor pools, play a round of golf or a game of tennis, attend one of our many kids’ camps or enjoy an outdoor concert, Lansing is the place to be.
If you like to swim or just relax in the water Hunter Park and Moores Park both have outdoor pools with lifeguards. Our pools are free to the public and are open daily from 12 to 4 pm and 5 to 7 pm. Hunter Pool offers a splash pad, a zero depth entry and hosted over 20,000 visitors last summer.
Groesbeck Golf Course is a beautiful 18-hole course located within the City. Groesbeck has been recognized as one of the Top Ten Municipal courses in the State of Michigan and offers a picturesque landscape. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned player, Groesbeck has something to offer. New this year Groesbeck is offering a "Drive" In movie on August 16th, a great golf special combined with an outdoor movie. Click Here to vote for the movie selection.
In partnership with the Todd Martin Development Fund we offer two tennis programs for ages 8 to 18, National Junior Tennis and Learning Program and the Local Excellence Training program. These tennis development programs focus on instruction, leadership, team building, life skills and problem solving skills.
Summer Kids’ Camp is the perfect place to be when school is out. Eight fun filled weeks of camp for ages 5 to 9. Each week will have a special theme with activities and a field trip, as well as breakfast and lunch included. New this summer is Double Digit Camp; this camp is designed for youth ages 10 to 13 and will have weekly themes and activities, but will also focus on team building, leadership activities and service projects with special guests and experiences designed especially for tweens.
Looking for a unique camp experience? Turner Dodge has specialty camps from American Girl to Be a Detective. Want to enjoy nature and the great outdoors? Fenner Nature Center has a variety of nature exploration camps sure to intrigue.
If this is not enough, the whole family may enjoy a wide genre of music at our Concert in the Park series. Throughout the summer we offer a free concert series in various parks around the city. There is sure to be music for everyone.
To assist families with our activities, scholarships are available to Lansing youth whose family meets Federal HUD low income guidelines.
I look forward to seeing you this summer at one of the many events and programs we offer throughout the City of Lansing.
