MLK Commission
November 5, 2011 Dear Friend: The Greater Lansing Area Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Holiday Commission is proud to announce the 27th Annual Celebration Luncheon in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and commemorate the dedication of the monument to Dr. King “A Stone of Hope” in our nation’s capital. The luncheon and commemoration ceremony will be held at the Lansing Center, 333 East Michigan Avenue, Lansing, Michigan. This year’s theme is “I am a Dream keeper” Our Keynote speaker will be the Honorable Judge Joe Brown, the non-traditional presiding judge of the syndicated reality courtroom show JUDGE JOE BROWN. Judge Brown became the first African-American prosecutor for the City of Memphis, and then director of the City of Memphis Public Defender's Office. In 1978, he launched his own private practice, but returned to public service in 1990 where, recognized for his sincerity, passion and justice he was soon elected Judge of Division 9 of the State Criminal Courts for Shelby County. Judge Joe Brown is committed to making a difference in people's lives. He currently resides in Memphis, Tennessee where he dedicates his time helping at risk teens. We are certain that Judge Brown will deliver a poignant and inspiring keynote address and we look forward to your participation in this momentous community event.
