Libraries

The City of Lansing offers you a world of books, information, and community resources. Residents and visitors have access to several area libraries, including the highly regarded Library of Michigan, the Nation's second largest State library building.

Capital Area District Library

The Capital Area District Library (CADL) is a system of libraries in Ingham County, consisting of thirteen libraries and a bookmobile, which stops at various locations throughout the county. CADL provides city residents with access to extensive book and media collections, reference services, on-line resources, and programs for adults, children and families.

Delta Township District Library

The Delta Township District Library is located on the west side of the greater Lansing Capital Region. The Library provides a variety of services to meet the educational, recreational, and informational needs of the community.

Library of Michigan

Located in the Michigan Library and Historical Center, the Library of Michigan is the nation's second-largest State library building. The impressive five-story complex contains more than 27 miles of shelves with 3.2 million different items.

The library boasts one of the largest genealogy collections in the United States, with historical census data, ship passenger lists and related family information. The library also features a large concentration of Michigan materials that spans a number of collections and encompasses all aspects and time periods of the state and its people. The Library of Michigan features the Michigan eLibrary (MeL), one of the first online libraries on the Internet. MeL provides full-text articles, books, Michigan history materials, and websites to residents of the state of Michigan.
