Class Title: Utility Worker 600 (UAW) Starting Salary: $18.32/hr. to $23.62/hr.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & TRAINING: Failure to obtain or maintain job required qualifications would result in appropriate action consistent with the provision of the Appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement or Personnel Rules.
Applicant selected to fill this position will be offered as a condition of employment to participate in an employer paid Hepatitis B inoculation program.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be able to operate standard transmission vehicles
Must live within a 20-mile radius of City Limits, position subject to call-ins, shift work, and overtime
Must have the ability to pass and maintain a DOT medical examiners certification
Must be able to pass and maintain a respirator physical and fit test
Must be able to pass and maintain Traffic Regulator certification
Must be able to pass and maintain Confined Space certification
Must be able to pass and maintain Power Industrial Truck and Aerial Work Platform certification
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: The City of Lansing reserves the right to utilize equivalencies where deemed appropriate with regard to education and experience requirements.
High School Diploma or GED
Four (4) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of Wastewater Treatment Plant and/or Pumping Station equipment and facilities; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of Wastewater Treatment Plant and pump station equipment, the function and operation of sewer overflow regulators, the safe and efficient operation of electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
Skill in the use of a personal computer with word processing and other software programs, operating a wide range of tools and equipment safely and efficiently, diagnosing and correcting malfunctions in machines and equipment, interpreting sewer drawings and road maps.
Ability to provide work direction and training to others, follow verbal and written instructions, work independently, maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
PHYSICAL CAPACITY REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the individual through assistance or on their own to walk, stand, sit, climb, reaching, lift, pull, push, balance, bend, stoop, crouch, twist, carry, have finger dexterity, hear, have visual acuity and the ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis and 90 pounds occasionally.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS OF POSITION:
Work in Wastewater Pumping Stations and/or Wastewater Treatment Plant; inside and outside in all types of weather conditions, subject to extreme cold, sudden temperature changes, high humidity, dust, dirt, offensive odors, some loud noises, and potentially hazardous atmospheres. Must work with raw sewage and with a wide range of mechanical equipment.
