Lansing's monthly Mobile Food Pantry will be held at the Friendship Baptist Church, July 18, 2015 from 9:00-11:00 AM. The HRCS Department will be distributing free, non-perishable food items. Participants must bring a valid ID and a box or bag to carry the items.
City officials, partners & community members took part in a roundtable discussion regarding best practices in police-community relations with special guest Cincinnati Judge Cheryl Grant. Mayor Bernero & the LPD will continue to engage the community to help strengthen police-community relations.
The Lansing Regional Sister Cities Commission (LRSCC) announced today that the organization has won the 2015 Sister Cities International Innovation in Arts & Culture Award for cities with a population between 100,001 and 500,000.
The members of the Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB) held a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, on the site of the new Karole L. White Great Lakes Media Center located in downtown Lansing.
The Lansing Police Department will be testing several different models of body-worn cameras on a trial basis to determine the best technology for the Lansing officers. Full deployment for this project is expected in late fall of this year.
Mayor Bernero recently presented the Key to the City to Lansing native Earvin "Magic" Johnson at the Lansing Promise Scholarship Dinner. Johnson (and friends) gave $800,000 of the $1 Million raised. The scholarship is a shining success, due largely to the dedication of the local Promise Board.
Mayor Bernero joined Lansing Lugnuts owner Tom Dickson, and LEAP President & CEO Bob Trezise to cut the ribbon on the $13.5 million renovation project at Cooley Law School Stadium.
As part of a City/Lansing School District partnership against bullying, the Mayor established the "Upstander Awards" program to recognize students who meet established criteria like peacefully standing up to bullying. The awards will include small scholarships, which are being funded online.
