The Greater Lansing Go Green! Initiative

Mayor Virg Bernero's Greater Lansing Go Green! Initiative is working to promote environmental and economic health for all those who live, work, and play in Greater Lansing.
Go Green! Tip of the Week:
Americans throw away 25% more trash during the Thanksgiving to New Year's holiday period than any other time of the year. The extra waste amounts to 25 million tons of garbage, or about 1 million extra tons per week. Try to be conscious of what you throw away this holiday season! Recycle or reuse what you can.

Bob Graham, Facilities and Technologies Director

At St. Vincent, great strives have been made to contribute to the green movement. Promoting a clean and green work environment is evident at St. Vincent where they work to reduce their impact on the environment. Examples of what they do include: shutting off computers at night, using low mercury energy efficient bulbs, changing HVAC filters four times a year, adopting a four day work week to cut down transportation, carpooling, and recycling. It may seem like a lot but Bob Graham, the Facilities and Technologies Director, says "it's a pretty easy process to do."
He suggests for businesses that are just starting out to "ask employees for suggestions and start out simple. Stick to recycling and build upon that." After implementing those changes, Bob is happy to see how beneficial it has been for St. Vincent. "The employees have responded very well and they always have suggestions on where we can improve." He has ideas to expand upon his current operations by obtaining a solar panel to power the pond in front of the church. "Look around, there are great ideas out there that you can use to help make this world a better place."
