Property Tax Information

Welcome to the City of Lansing Property Tax Information Center.

We've included some basic facts to help you understand the information on this page,

There are two types of property tax - Real and Personal:

  • Home owners are typically responsible for real property tax.  Real property tax bills begin with 23, 33 or 91.
  • Business owners located in Lansing can be responsible for real and personal property tax.  The personal property tax bills begin with 90, 94 or 95.

Property taxes are determined by multiplying the taxable value of the property by the millage rates and any special assessments, recycling fee and/or any miscellaneous charges.  From there add 1% for the administration fee.

Summer property tax bills are mailed on July 1st of each year with payments due August 31st of that year.  Any outstanding amount at September 1st will receive a one time penalty and interest fee of 3%.  Any outstanding amount as of October 30th will be placed on the winter tax bill.

Winter property tax bills are mailed on December 1st with payments due on February 14th of the following year.  Any outstanding real property tax payments will be sent to the County as delinquent for continued collection efforts on March 1st.
