Message From City Assessor

As the City Assessor of the City of Lansing, I would like to welcome you to our web site and offer you the opportunity to browse these pages for information describing some of the functions of the Assessment Division of the Finance Department.

The Assessor's Office is responsible for identifying and valuing all taxable property within the City of Lansing. Each year, we produce the assessment rolls and the property tax rolls in accordance with Michigan's General Property Tax Law.

Lansing has 42,900 real property parcels and 3300 personal property parcels. The total taxable value of these properties is over $2.2 billion and generates more than $126 million in annual revenues for funding the various local public services and schools.

Our office consists of three residential appraisers, three commercial appraisers, three clerks, one data base administrator and one mapping specialist. Two assessment supervisors and I supervise these employees. By being committed to the support and enhancement of the physical, economic and social well-being of all of the citizens of Lansing, our goal is to strengthen the fiscal resources of Lansing's government. By providing equitable assessments and accurate property data, we ensure that no one is burdened with having to pay more than their fair share of the property tax.

I hope that you will find the information provided by our web site to be helpful in improving your understanding of the government that serves you..

Sincerely,
Maria L. Irish, CMAE4
City Assessor
