Information about the September 2008 Heavy Rain Incident

To qualify for storm-related damage assessment and debris pickup, residents who experienced basement flooding or other storm-related damage must call 483-4692 no later than Friday, September 26, to report their property damage. This number carries a recorded message that asks the caller to provide their contact information and a damage report so that emergency operations personnel can follow up with them.
Elderly or disabled residents who need special assistance in removing damaged items from their homes for curbside pickup should call 2-1-1 for volunteer assistance. All other emergency assistance numbers are also available by calling 2-1-1.
In addition, residents who have questions about heath issues with flood and sewage cleanup, suchas disinfecting, use of protective clothing and what to do with contaminated food, may contact Ingham County Health Department Environmental Services at 887-4312.
Emergency Operations officials also noted that if a home has been vacated due to storm-related flooding, individuals and families should not move back in until there is:
- Electricity
- An adequate water supply
- Toilet facilites available
- Heating system in working order
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMAITON
- STANDING WATER: Water can be energized by the downed power lines or be contaminated. Stay out of standing water!!!!
