Thank you for your interest in the commercial recycling program.  We have had a great response from the business community, but are no longer accepting applications for the pilot program.  We look forward to the completion of the pilot and hopefully offering a convenient and affordable recycling solution to Lansing businesses in the near future.

The City of Lansing has long been a leader in recycling, providing curbside collection services to residential households since 1990.  We recognize that many businesses also need this same convenient service and now have grant funding to conduct a pilot program in select areas of the city.

 Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  How is the City able to offer this pilot for free?

 A)  In 2009, the City of Lansing received ARRA (Recovery Act) Funds to implement a variety of projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.  One of the projects funding by this grant from the Department of Energy is the commercial recycling pilot, which will assist the City in determining how best to meet the recycling needs of Lansing businesses.

Q)  When Will My Recycling Be Picked Up?

A)  Routes will be developed once all participants have been selected.  Collection information will be provided as soon as possible.

Q)  What Is A Waste Assessment?

A)  Trained CART staff will walk through your businesses, look at what is being thrown away and characterize the waste to determine the materials that are generated the most.  Recommendations on what materials can be reduced, reused and recycled will then be made.

Q)  How Many Carts Will I Receive?

A)  CART staff will determine the amount of carts needed at each business based on the survey information and waste assessment findings.  Every attempt will be made to provide each business with as many carts as necessary to have a successful recycling program.
