Does it cost anything to recycle?
The recycling (and yard waste) service is already paid for through an annual fee that is included with the property taxes of each single family property owner. There are no additional fees to get a cart or use the recycling service.
What do I do with my old recycling bin?
You can either keep the bin for your own use or recycle it by placing it inside or next to your recycling cart on your collection day.
If I move out, should I take my cart to my new house?
The recycling cart belongs to the City and should remain on the property for the new residents to use.
Can I get a smaller cart?
Yes, please contact the CART office at 517/483-4400 or firstname.lastname@example.org to request a different cart size. Exchanges may not be made until after January, 2014.
How do I sign up for trash service?
If you would like to get a blue trash cart, call 517/483-4400 during office hours: M-Th, 8am-4pm. There are 3 different cart sizes available, which are billed quarterly. If you would like to use City trash bags, they can be purchased at many local grocery and convenient stores in packages of 5, 30 gallon bags for $8.75. Simply place the trash bags at the curb on collection day, there is no need to sign up with our office.
What do I do with yard waste?
Curbside collection of leaves, grass and other yard waste is included with the annual recycling fee that is assessed to each single family property owner in the City of Lansing. Paper yard waste bags and properly prepared bundles of yard waste can be set out seasonally between the months of April and November.
