Lansing SAVE is a children's savings program for kindergartens in the Lansing School District brought to you by the City of Lansing, the Lansing School District, and Michigan State University Federal Credit Union. These accounts will help Lansing School District students start saving money for their future college or career training expenses.
Lansing SAVE compliments the Lansing HOPE and the Lansing Promise programs to prepare our students for post-secondary education opportunities. The funds in the Lansing SAVE accounts can be used for any post-secondary education opportunity such as college, trade school, vocational training, supplies, books or lab fees.
Students can save for their post-secondary opportunities through personal contributions to their accounts as well as the seed and incentive funds provided by the program.
In addition to savings accounts, the Lansing SAVE program will also provide financial education specialists to local area schools and provides students with valuable tools on saving for their financial future. The Lansing SAVE program offers students the foundation needed to learn about financial management and plan for their futures so they can achieve their goals and dreams.
The Lansing SAVE program began with the 2014-2015 school year with students attending Cumberland Elementary, Lyons Elementary, Reo Elementary, Riddle Elementary and Willow Elementary schools.
We had 357 students in our first cohort.
In the 2015-2016, we will add Cavanaugh Elementary, Forest View Elementary, Gier Park Elementary and North Elementary schools. In the 2017-2018 school year, we will reach full capacity with all kindergartners in the Lansing School District.
