The goal of the commission is to engage youth of all ethnic, racial, economic and religious backgrounds and to teach them about Dr. King's vision of justice and peace. The purpose of the commission is to give the residents of Lansing an appreciation of the strengths found in ethnic and racial diversity. A major function of the MLK, Jr. Commission is planning the annual January luncheon.


The MLK, Jr. Commission is founded under executive order of the Mayor's office. Members are appointed by the Mayor.
