The Facts on
Lansing’s Park Millage Ballot Proposal
Vote – August 3, 2010

What is the Lansing Park Millage?
Every five years, the citizens of the City of Lansing vote to set aside 1 mill of property taxes to operate and maintain the City’s parks and recreation system.  The Lansing Park Millage is used for park and playground improvements as well as providing matching funds for state, federal and local grant programs.  Over the past 5 years, more than $4.2 million dollars of state and federal funds were leveraged to help improve our park system.

Will this result in an increase of my current property taxes?
NO!  This is a renewal of an existing millage.  Your property tax will not increase as a result of the millage renewal.

What is my current cost?
Remember – This is a renewal of an existing millage. Your property tax will not increase

Your Home’s                  Estimated Average
Market Value                Annual Cost
$50,000                              $25.00
$75,000                              $37.50
$100,000                            $50.00

Exactly what is the ballot question?

Shall the City of Lansing, counties of Ingham and Eaton, Michigan, renew a levy of one mill ($1.00 per $1,000) for five years commencing July 1, 2011 on all taxable real and personal property in the City of Lansing for the purpose of operating, maintaining, and providing capital improvements to the City’s Parks and Recreation System?

Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights

Part of the national No Child Left Indoors movement, Lansing has adopted an Outdoor Bill of Rights for Children as a way to get kids and families outdoors to enjoy Lansing’s many parks.  Each of the 10 rights contained programs that strengthened the awareness of Lansing’s youth to the outdoors.  After participating in an outdoor program, children were given a wristband pertaining to the right of that particular program.  Once a wristband was collected from each of the ten rights, a t-shirt and a certificate that signified the completion of the program were given.
